30 Hour Famine

Be seen, be heard, Be Hungry - The 30 Hour Famine is coming!!

On April 25th and 26th, please join teens from across the Diocese of the Rio Grande will gather at the Cathedral Church of St. John to “be seen, be heard, Be Hungry” during the 30 Hour Famine for World Vision. The 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement to fight hunger. From 12:00 noon on Friday through 6:00 pm, Saturday, 30 hours, you will fast to earn funds that will go to help feed the least, the lost, the hungry and the poor in God’s Kingdom. Why 30 hours? It takes about 30 hours of fasting for most westerners to feel the hunger that most of the world’s poor feel ALL THE TIME.

This year’s Famine includes an overnight Lock-In at the Cathedral. You’ll be spending your time during the Fast in fellowship, fun and study and in community service at Joy Junction, and other area service projects. The pledges you get will be used by God as we seek to be God’s hands and feet on the earth. Don’t worry: you will be too busy to think about eating.

The purpose of this project is to fast and raise funds for World Vision. The type of fast we will be engaged in is a fast from solid food. There will be plenty of water and fruit juice to drink. Even if you cannot fast, you can still participate. This project is for all teens.

The Fast will end with a meal commonly found in the underdeveloped areas of the world and will prepared for us. And if past experiences are any indication, you will truly enjoy your first meal!
